ENERGO-PRO Colombia was established in 2019, it is headquartered in Medellín, and its main activities are identification and development of new hydropower projects in the country. Colombia is an attractive market with interesting opportunities in the hydropower sector. It has the sixth largest potential in this sector in the world, especially concerning the high-head power plants.
Currently, ENERGO - PRO builds its first hydropower plant on the American continent. It is the Chorreritas Hydropower Plant on the river San Andrés near the town of San Andrés de Cuerquia.
Chorreritas project underwent a Hydropower Sustainability (HS) Standard assessment in 2023, with a site visit from November 27th to December 1st. The HS Standard is a global certification system that sets performance requirements for hydropower projects, focusing on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects. Chorreritas’s preliminary assessment report was a subject of public consultation.
In January 2025, the Chorreritas project was successfully certified under the Hydropower Sustainability Standard. This achievement reflects our dedication and commitment to sustainability and our proactive stance toward responsible hydropower development and operation.
This certification is valid for 3 years from the date of issuance, during which time our project will be recognized for its adherence to the highest standards of sustainability.

The Hydropower Sustainability Alliance is a global, multi-stakeholder non-profit that unites representatives from governments, industry, civil society, and financial institutions to drive sustainability in the hydropower sector. HSA oversees the Hydropower Sustainability Standard, an assessment and certification framework that evaluates and enhances the ESG performance of hydropower projects worldwide.
The Hydropower Sustainability Standard (HS Standard) assesses projects across 12 environmental, social, and governance (ESG) sections at two performance levels: good practice and best practice. Each topic has its own principle and scope statements to provide clarity on the intent and desired outcomes of the topic assessment.
An independent assessment was conducted by a team of Accredited Assessors. The assessment process involves collecting objective evidence from a variety of sources to provide an unbiased and evidence-based evaluation of the project’s sustainability performance according to the performance requirements of the HS Standard. As part of the HS Standard certification process, the preliminary assessment report is required to undergo a 60-day public consultation period, allowing all stakeholders to provide comments and feedback on its findings.
The public consultation period for the Preliminary Assessment Report of Central Hidroeléctrica Cuerquia (CH Cuerquia) is open from 1 October 2026 to 30 November 2026.
