HPP Baixo Iguaçu

Brazil construction of the Baixo Iguaçu Hydropower Plant began in 2013, and facility was commissioned in February 2019. The concession for its operation is valid until 2049. Located on the Iguaçu River in the state of Paraná, the plant’s reservoir covers an area of 32 km².

Equipped with three Kaplan turbines, the Baixo Iguaçu HPP plays a vital role in regulating the flow of the iconic Iguaçu Falls, maintaining a minimum flow even during drought periods. It generates clean and renewable electricity for approximately one million people, representing about 8% of the annual energy consumption of the state of Paraná.

ENERGO - PRO acquired the Baixo Iguaçu HPP in 2025 for a price exceeding €260 million, marking the largest Czech investment in South America. With an installed capacity of 350 MW, the Baixo Iguaçu HPP became the single largest power source in the ENERGO - PRO Group's generation portfolio.
