03 December 2009, Tbilisi, Georgia
Martkopi HPP is the latest hydropower plant, acquired by ENERGO-PRO Georgia JSC. It is located near Tbilisi and is build along the irrigating canal flowing from Sion Lake.
Martkopi HPP was put in operation in 1951. It has total installed capacity of 4 MW and average annual production of 43 000 MWh. The power plant is water supplied by means of an outlet canal from Satskhenisi HPP, which is installed at an upper power level to Martkopi HPP. The canal is 2107,15 meters long and its capacity is 13m3/s. Martkopi HPP starts at the end of the canal with a water intake structure, from which by means of a pressure pipeline the water is supplied to the power plant. One hydro-generator set is installed in the power plant. The turbine type in the plant is Francis.
During the last years most of the facilities of the irrigation system have been under rehabilitation works. In 2007 the HPP passed an Ecological audit.
